The other day after listening to a message i decided to take a single verse and study it thoroughly, word by word.
The verse?
It was James 1:1 and I was blessed!
I had a commentary on hand and I was amazed that one sentence meant so much. Imagine that we read passages upon passages at a go! Are we studying them thoroughly?

2 Timothy 2:15 NIV –
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Any current and old member of AWANA can recite this verse. For it is the theme verse of the “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” Bible Club.
AWANA is a non profit, Bible centered international youth organization. I’m a proud old member and I am so grateful for that period of my life.
Memorising Scripture. 😍

I had an interesting thought the other day. As part of the study of ophthalmology, is an important section which involves the study of optics and refraction. We have a textbook which in my day was like a bible. Every sentence is key, even the placement of words is key and you have to understand it. I would read a chapter, then answer multiple choice questions, then go back to read and see what I missed. Wow, every sentence counted.

So if as a junior resident I noted all this and studied that book and by God’s good grace passed that exam at one go in two instances (God’s grace alone! 🙌🏾), how much more should I be studying the word of God? 🤔

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV –
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Hebrews 4:12 NIV –
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart

The Bible is rich!
It contains so much.
Kudos to those who have read through it completely.
It’s amazing!
It’s relevant.
It has stood the test of time.
It is life changing.
It’s a manual for the believer.
It has the answers to our fears with this phrase which appears several times – DO NOT FEAR
It gives purpose to our lives on this side of eternity.
We look at the lives of those recorded and learn lessons of preserverence, faith, hope, and yes mistakes too, they were human.
BUT GOD!
To think people like Tamar, Rahab, Bathsheba have the great Saviour coming along their line shows how intentional our God is, He’s a God of restoration.  Mistakes can occur, but He so carefully weaves them into something that can be beautiful.

Romans 8:28 NIV –
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

I put it to you: Are you just reading or are you studying the word of God?
Are you daily asking the Holy Spirit to reveal something to you from the word?

I’ll end with this admonition.

Joshua 1:8 NIV –
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

God bless you!
😊🙏🏽
