Ancient words!
From an Ancient God! The Ancient of Days!
I can’t describe how exciting it is for me to pen down this blog.
That wonderful word of God.
Sweeter than honey on the honey comb.
A lamp onto our feet and a light onto our path.
God breathed words!
How we take it for granted huh?
God forgive us!
Joshua 1:8-9 NIV –
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
It’s easy to zoom in on the second part of the verse and ignore the first part.
We as believers are to read the word and meditate on it – day and night.
Much like rumination isn’t it?
To mediate or ruminate (or “hide”) a word means to engage in deep, repeated, and intentional reflection on its meaning, allowing it to become deeply ingrained in one’s heart, mind and actions.
What a definition!
Are you meditating on the word of God??
Key aspects of the mediation process
• Deep reflection – beyond a quick read 🫣or intellectual study. It involves focused, sustained and prayerful consideration of the word’s meaning and implications.
• Internalization – as it were “hiding the word in our heart” from Psalm 119:11, meaning to memorize, treasure and embed the word deep within our inner self for future guidance and strength.
• Transformation and application – the ultimate goal is not knowledge, but transformation! The word should influence our thoughts, choices, behaviour and guide us in our daily lives and help us resist negative thoughts or sin.
• Repetition. The Hebrew word for “meditate” (Hagan) also implies murmuring or speaking the words quietly aloud.
I once meditated on a single verse and I was blown away.
Every word is key.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV –
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I see an absolute “all”!
Even Song of Solomon huh?
God is a God of love isn’t He? 😄
God has given us all we need to be thoroughly equipped for every good work and we are His workmanship – created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared beforehand for us to do.
We cannot make use or sense out of the Bible without the Holy Spirit. For the word of God is spirit and life.
John 6:63 NLT –
The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
I’ll end with the words of this verse plus some 😅
Hebrews 4:12 NIV –
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart
May we treasure the word of God.
We are blessed to have these words in print.
Let’s not just read our Bibles, but study the word so that we can obey the commandment to “Study to show ourselves approved onto God, workmen that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”
Amen!
God bless you!
😊🙏🏽
Amen
Amen oo!
God bless you!
Great piece 👏 👌 👍🏽. We hold on to the word of God . Our lives depend on it.
We thank God ooo!
Indeed, our lives do depend on it; it is our daily bread.
Man shall not live by bread alone; but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God!
