In better hands.
I start off this blog with a smile. I had wanted to write on the hands of God some time back, but it wasn’t time. Well, it sure is now! 😄
Yesterday, in church, our Bible reading was taken from Ezra 7:1-10.
Guess what word appeared twice in the passage? You guessed right! (I hope 😜)
The word “hand”.
When I think of the hand(s) of God, several Bible verses come to mind and a song by Natalie Grant titled “In Better Hands” hence the title of the blog.
We seriously couldn’t be in better hands than the hands of God.
I get a sense of protection, security, care and love when I think of the hands of our mighty and awesome God.
Let’s delve deeper. 😊
“The hands of God” is a widespread biblical metaphor representing God’s active power, presence, guidance, and protection of God in the world. It symbolizes divine strength, protection, creation, and favour, mentioned over 100 times in scripture to comfort believers and demonstrate miracles.
Key aspects of the “ hand of God” include the following:
• Divine Power and action: It illustrates God’s power actively working, rather than just being present, particularly in deliverance and creation.
Exodus 15:6-7 NIV –
Your right hand, LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, LORD,
shattered the enemy.
7 “In the greatness of your majesty
you threw down those who opposed you.
• Protection and support: The “right hand” of God is often described as a source of strength, safety, and upholding people in times of trouble.
Isaiah 41:13 NIV –
For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;I will help you.
• Guidance and discipline: The phrase frequently refers to God leading, guiding, and disciplining individuals, even when they are not aware of it at the time.
Psalm 139:9-10 NIV
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
• Creation and salvation: It refers to God’s deliberate work in creating life and securing salvation.
Isaiah 48:13 NIV –
My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I summon them, they all stand up together.
• Provision: It signifies God’s loving care and supply of needs, providing for His people.
Psalm 145:16 NIV –
You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
• Favour : in Ezra 7:6-28, refers to the “gracious hand” of God bringing favour.
Ezra 7:6 NIV –
this Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him.
• Intimacy: this one gets me emotional when I consider the verse below. What manner of love and care our God has for us! 🥹🙏🏽
Isaiah 49:15-16 NIV –
Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.
God’s hands do bring judgment too. Without a covering of grace, it is a terrifying to face God’s judgement (Hebrews 10:31). Christ has paid the price!
I repeat, there’s no better place to be than in the loving hands of our God. We couldn’t be in better hands!
I’ll end with the words of the song I’ll share below:
It’s like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down
It’s like my soul is flying though my feet are on the ground
So take this heart of mine, there’s no doubt, I’m in better hands now.
God bless you!
😊🙏🏽
There is no better place to be than be carried in the hands of God. There we find peace, there we find protection. Amen 🙏🏽
Amen and amen!
God bless you Aunty Regina!
