The marketplace: our mission field
I had started writing another blog and then this came to mind during Bible study at church yesterday and here we are.
This our God is simply amazing.
I simply can’t get over Him and His love for me.
Jesus is the lover of my soul. What a wow!
This my Jesus,…nooooo size!! 😄🥰😍🤗
The theme in my church this year has been on discipleship with the theme verse – ‘You are really my disciples’ from John 8:31
Our study yesterday in church was this – Extending Christ-like faith: Making disciples for Christ.
This begs the question – what is discipleship?
Biblically, discipleship is a lifelong journey of actively learning from, imitating, and following Jesus Christ, moving from just hearing His words, to living them out, bearing spiritual fruit, and helping others do the same, all empowered by the Holy Spirit to become like Him in character and mission.
Wow!
What a definition.
I’d read it a few times if I were you. 😀
There’s more! 😅
It’s a relational apprenticeship involving commitment, and transformation, far beyond mere intellectual belief or casual study.
The following are the key elements of biblical discipleship
• following Jesus
• learning and imitation
• transformation
• obedience
• bearing fruit
• relationship and mentorship
• mission
Here is the mission we were given:
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV – Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We are commanded.
It is our duty.
So where is our mission field?
Everywhere we find ourselves., most especially our ‘marketplace’
For example, as a doctor, my mission field is the hospital. Am I impacting my fellow colleagues, my patients, anyone who comes into contact with me? In what way?
Christians as followers of Christ are all in ministry.
The market place is our mission field.
Are we lifting high the royal banner or are we making people question our faith.
Are we daring to be different or we doing what ‘everyone’ is doing?
These are some things I picked from Rev Dr Joyce Aryee during her sermonette at the just past Corporate Thanksgiving organized on the 4th of December:
• we must have purpose over position. Titles are temporary. Purpose endures.
• our success is determined by the depth of our impact.
• for a Christian, success is when you are obedient to God.
• ministry means service.
• our empathy coupled with honesty to our clients is a very powerful sermon.
• our work should be an act of worship to God.
• we are called to make wherever we are tasty. We are salt!
• who we are in every environment should be the same.
• our integrity is our influence
Indeed , let’s work for Jesus, day by day. Serve Him ever, falter never Christ obey. Yield Him service loyal and true, for there’s a work for Jesus we are called to do!
God bless you!
😊🙏🏽
