MY GOD

Psalm 91:2 NIV - I will say of the LORD, โ€œHe is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.โ€

I was listening to a message and I thought of the second verse of Psalm 91.

Psalm 91:2 NIV –
I will say of the LORD, โ€œHe is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.โ€

My God! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ
Thatโ€™s the phrase that hit me.
Note the personal nature of the phrase.
He is not just the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but He is my God, your God, our God.

The introduction that Darlene Zschech made at the beginning of the song Waymaker comes to mind and Iโ€™ve always loved saying it along with her when I listen to the song:
โ€œHe is a Way-Maker, He is my Miracle Worker, this song is personal for you today. He is a Light in the darkness; that is who He is. Your situation may be up and your situation may be down, but the personhood of Christ remains the same, the finished work of Christ remains the same. So letโ€™s sing this song, knowing who our God is, in Jesusโ€™ Name.โ€

She practically preached a sermon just before she even started singing the song. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Key phrase – IT IS PERSONAL.

One thing I remember growing up in Sunday School was the emphasis on the fact that our salvation was personal. We each have to come to the point of acknowledging our state as sinners, our need for a Saviour and to accept Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour.
The salvation of my mother, father, brother or sister is as the name suggests – it is theirs. Though salvation ย is a free gift from God, we must make the decision to receive the gift. A question just popped in my head – “Is a gift still a gift if it is not received?” The answer I got off the internet was “no”. A gift if it is not received by the intended recipient is not a gift because the act of giving requires a transfer of property from the donor to the donee without any consideration. Additionally, without acceptance or receipt, the transfer of ownership is not established and it cannot be legally considered a complete gift. Interesting,… ๐Ÿค”

Ephesians 2:8-9 NIVย
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithโ€”and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of Godโ€”
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Once any person makes that decision, the next steps involve getting to know God for themselves.
Being followers of Christ is not about following rules, itโ€™s about having a moment by moment, day by day relationship with God. It is a way of life, and as we grow in the Lord, we seek to please and obey Him, thus obeying His word.
The Law was summed up by Christ.

Matthew 22:36-40 NIV – โ€œTeacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?โ€
37 Jesus replied: โ€œ โ€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.โ€™
38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: โ€˜Love your neighbor as yourself.โ€™
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.โ€

Seems simple enough, doesnโ€™t it, execution is the issue. ๐Ÿ˜€

So, can you confidently call God โ€œyour Godโ€ , or He is the God of your mother, your auntie, your cousin?

God’s love for us knows no bounds (reckless love ๐Ÿ˜€) and He wants to have a personal relationship with each of us. Letโ€™s draw nearer and nearer to Him day by day and as He promised in His word, He too will draw near to us (James 4:8). Then we can confidently say like the Psalmist did that โ€œ He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”

Praaaaaaaaaaaaise the Lord!

God bless you!
