Blessed assurance!
Hooray!!
This title has been on my mind for some time now. After hearing it mentioned several times during yesterday’s sermon in church (God bless you Rev!), I knew it was time.
I love that hymn. It speaks such hope and peace. 😀
What is an assurance?
It is defined as a positive declaration intended to give confidence; a promise.
What does it mean to say something is blessed?
It means made holy, consecrated.
Now what is the meaning of the term “blessed assurance”?
It is a Christian term for the confident and peaceful certainty of salvation and God’s love, stemming from a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ.
John 3:16 NIV –
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV –
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Titus 3:5 NIV –
he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit
It is by faith, it is by grace, it is a free gift.
You cannot give what you do not have.
You cannot love your neighbour if first of all you haven’t received God’s love, love God, then love yourself. Recall the Bible verse says -“Love your neighbour as you love yourself “.
You cannot seek to save the lost if you are not certain of your own salvation. Instead of converting others, you yourself will be converted by their arguments and reasoning,
But God!
God’s words are true.
Once you have accepted the Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you become a child of God, you are saved.
It does not end there, you must seek to live for God everyday.
Christianity I like to say and is commonly said, is not a religion; it is a way of life.
We are followers of Christ who day by day are being made into the likeness of Christ as we yield to the voice of the Holy Spirit living in us.
Are you assured of your salvation?
Where will you go when you die?
Please answer these questions frankly and honestly.
There should be no place for doubt.
It is a matter of life and death, heaven and hell.
The life we have here on earth is a drop in the bucket, compared with eternity.
Let’s live for God.
Share His word and tell others of who He is in and to you,
Amen!
God bless you!
😊
