HOT OR COLD?

“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!"

Hot or cold?

Let me confess right off the bat that I may have slightly deceived you with the title.
It caught your attention didn’t it? 😃
My concern is not the hot nor cold, but rather the lukewarm.
It is the Lord’s concern too isn’t it?

The verses that got me thinking along this line are below:

Revelation 3:15-16 NLT –
15 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!
16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

This passage has always been a warning to me. God wishes you and I were either hot or cold, but lukewarm – a big no-no.
Hmmmm.

The second reading:

Jeremiah 3:11 NIV – The LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel is more righteous than unfaithful Judah.

This one had me utterly confused!
Why would God consider a faith-less nation more righteous than an un-faithful one??
Let’s see why.

To understand terms, I always like to define them.
Biblically faith-less refers to as state of unbelief, lack of trust in God or disloyalty to His covenant. It indicates a heart that turns away from God.

In the biblical context, un-faithful refers to a breach of trust, loyalty, or covenant primarily directed toward God , but also within human relationships like marriage and friendship.

It boggled my mind so much that I had to search online and this is what I found and I quote:
“The chapter (Jeremiah 3) had me contemplating the fact that there is something that God respects in those sinners who don’t even pretend to care about Him in comparison to those who say they love Him and then live as if they love the world and the things of the world”
Hmmmm,…

Sounds a lot like the lukewarm Christian doesn’t it?
Who is the lukewarm Christian?
The lukewarm believer is one who is neither hot nor cold, but rather indifferent, complacent, and half hearted in their faith.
They profess Christianity, but do not fully commit their lives to Jesus, blending in with the world and engaging in only nominal, convenient service.
Yikes! 🙆‍♀️

Most texts agree with the concept of hot being zealously on fire for God.
I’ve found majority defining cold as being indifferent, dead or against God.
Whatever the case, we must guard against becoming lukewarm

The idea of being spewed out sends shivers down my spine.
May that never be any of us.

Let us give ourselves wholeheartedly to the things of God!
This world is not our home.
We are ambassadors, sojourners and we’re heaven-bound through our acceptance of  the amazing sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the Cross.

Our flames may wane from time to time, BUT when they do, we need to go back to the source – God.
This verse captures this

There let it for Thy glory burn
with inextinguishable blaze,
and trembling to its source return,
in humble prayer and fervent praise.

Let’s keep burning for our God!
We’re either all in or all out – there is no middle ground!

God bless you!
