Walking on water
Can you imagine it?
To “walk on water” is an idiom that can be understood as performing a seemingly impossible feat or overcoming insurmountable odds. It is often used to describe someone who seems capable of things beyond human limitations or who commands immense, faultless admiration.
In my mind this can only refer to one person – God!
God the Father.
God the Son.
God the Holy Spirit.
Biblically 😊 walking on water draws our minds to Jesus who by so doing demonstrated His divine authority over the chaotic forces of nature.
Boy can they be chaotic!
BUT GOD!
Jesus walked on water to reach the disciples’ boat during a violent storm.
Matthew 14:25-33 NIV –
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Verily I say unto you,, Jesus is indeed the Son of God.
He alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one can come to the Father except through Him. John 14:6
These are some points I came across about this account of Jesus
• life is a storm, yet Jesus calmly walks on the surface.
• When Jesus calls us and we hear His voice, we are filled with courage
• We must step out of the boat – which can be a metaphor for our comfort zone, in order to follow Jesus.
• Our faith fails as we are distracted from looking at Jesus and instead look at the wind and waves around us, and we feel as though we are drowning.
Jesus reaches out and rescues us, and takes us once again to a place of safety.
Yes, Jesus reaches out, but, we must accept His help, right?
Reminds me of the sea of depression I swam in for quite a while. Mercy! But God!
Notice how the wind died down when Jesus got in the boat.
It brings to mind the words of a Joyful Way song:
He stills the raging storms in my life
He gives me peace
No one can love me like Jesus has done
Shedding His blood for me
Oh, what a friend, what a friend
My Jesus is.

Jesus may not always quiet the storm, but will give us the grace and strength to go through it, with Him with us all the way.
That’s why, with Christ in the vessel, we can smile at the storm.
I’ll end with the words of a hymn:
Jesus calls us o’er the tumult
Of our life’s wild, restless sea;
Day by day his sweet voice sounding,
Saying, “Christian, follow me.
What say ye?
God bless you!
