Begone Unbelief!

I was listening to one of my favourite groups and they started singing the hymn which is today’s title. It warmed my heart. ☺️

Hymns have always held a special place in my life and I’m sure in the lives of many others.
They contain so much encouragement for the believer as we plod on in this life.

Hymns remind us of who the God we serve is, of Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world and of the Holy Spirit and His working in and through us and so much more.
They remind us of who we are in Christ.

A friend I’ll refer to as DP had this to add on – “Hymns are also real life testimonies and experiences of people, that is why their impact can still be felt today.” There are amazing stories behind the hymns we sing.

This hymn makes us tell ourselves truths.
When life is happening, it’s easy to lose focus of many things.
BUT we must continually fix our eyes on God knowing that He is more than able to hold us fast through it all.

Begone, unbelief, my Savior is near,
And for my relief will surely appear;
By prayer let me wrestle, and He will perform;
With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm.

His love, in time past, forbids me to think
He’ll leave me at last in trouble to sink:
Each sweet Ebenezer I have in review
Confirms His good pleasure to help me quite through.

Why should I complain of want or distress,
Temptation or pain? He told me no less;
The heirs of salvation I know from His Word,
Through much tribulation must follow their Lord.

Since all that I meet shall work for my good,
The bitter is sweet, yhe medicine, food;
Though painful at present, ’twill cease before long,
And then, oh, how pleasant the conqueror’s song!

The last stanza is so Romans 8:28
Romans 8:28-29 NIV – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

God bless you!
🤗
