ABBA FATHER

Carol Clegg-Lamptey

I was just sittting down and looking heavenward. God knew what I was saying. Lord, what are we writing about?
This was the response ‘Abba Father’.

So to definitions; obviously we all know who a father is, though it would be interesting to define that term too.🤔

‘Abba’ is said to be the defining term for father in the Aramaic language, having been spoken by Jesus and Paul as an intimate term to characterize their personal relationships with God.

A father is a male parent, who is either married to the mother or has had paternity legally established for the care and support of a child. In my view, this meaning can be stretched.

Guess how many times God’s title ‘Abba Father’ is found referenced in the Bible — 3.
You would wonder why.🤔
The passages are Romans 8:15, Mark 14:36 and Galatians 4:6.
Who are those who utter these words – Jesus and the apostle Paul. 😊

Jesus, our Lord and Saviour 😍, was God in the flesh and guess where He called God Abba Father – in the Garden of Gethsemane. It was said accompanying an intimate request asked of God the Father, for God’s will to be shown in the foreboding ‘cup’ of sacrifice.

Mark 14:36 NLT –
36 “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Paul, what a man! He did a lot in his lifetime. What zeal he had for God.
From a Christian-hater to lover of Christ.

Romans 8:15 NLT –
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

Galatians 4:6-7 NLT –
And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child.

Indeed that’s my identity. First and foremost , I, Carol Emily Naa Lamiokor (almost feel like typing my whole name 😜) am a child of the Most High God and so are you; once you’ve accepted Christ as your Saviour.
Recall the verses below:

John 1:11-13 NIV –
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

What are the roles of a father?
He provides, protects, is a role model, teaches, listens, disciplines, shows affection, is a friend, nurtures as well as provides financial support.
Is that not our God? He is much much more than all these. 😊🙏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

God, eh,.. I simply can’t get over Him. I don’t even know when I started, but Jesus did give us the example in the Lord’s Prayer; we utter the words “Our Father who art in heaven.” I find myself unconsciously referring to God as Father in all or almost all of my prayers.

I know some of us haven’t had the best examples of fathers in our lives and it’s sad to acknowledge that. But, we thank God for the many father figures we have had and for the greatest Father of all — God!
He’s such a wow!
His love for us is amaaaazing!

Think about His love
Think about His goodness
Think about His Grace
That’s brought us through
For as high as the heavens above,
So great is the measure of our Father’s love
Great is the measure of our Father’s love.
🤓🙏🏽🙌🏾😍😍😍😍

God bless you! 😇
