ABIDING

What does it mean to ‘abide’?
To abide in the Lord means that we continually receive, believe and trust that Jesus is everything we need. He sure is!
The world tries to tell us otherwise. Many are seeking love in all the wrong places. 😢

Two hymns readily come to mind:

Abide with me! fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide!
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

Then,

In heavenly love abiding,
No change my heart shall fear;
And safe is such confiding,
For nothing changes here:
The storm may roar without me,
My heart may low be laid;
But God is round about me,
And can I be dismayed?

This is admittedly one of my favourite hymns. The words convey such peace and comfort to me. I loved singing it in secondary school in addition to so many other hymns! That’s certainly one thing I miss from my time in Wesley Girls’.☺️
Stanza one is said to discuss the conquest of fear, stanza two: the consciousness of God’s guidance by His watchful eye and stanza three describes the confidence of God’s goodness for the future. Is that not beautiful?

John 15:4-5 KJV –
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

As for God,..we can trust Him. In Malachi 3:6, God tells us, that HE DOES NOT CHANGE.
We are the problem! 😅
We have the tendency to wander from the path. Remember the prodigal son. What I recall most in that parable is the joy and love with which his father welcomed him back home, when he realized his folly. May we never fail to find our way back to God when we stray. What a Father we have in God! ☺️🙏🏾🙌🏾

Lord, we yearn to abide in You,
To remain in You no matter what.
Your Word says nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate us from Your love.
Apart from You Lord, we can do nothing!
May we remember that as we abide or remain in You, You shall surely prune us.
May we yield to the process, knowing that You work all things for our good and Your glory.
In Jesus’ Name I pray,
AMEN!!!

God bless you!
🤗
