JESUS, OUR FRIEND

Carol Clegg-Lamptey

Friendship!
This is something I treasure greatly.
Growing up, I never really had a lot of friends – they had to prove themselves before they were let in 😅. It’s these days by the grace of God I notice changes which are almost sanguine- like. It’s amazing what God can do in our lives!
Still, I treasure friends. There’s nothing like having a heart to heart chat with someone you trust and share equal beliefs with. It simply makes my day!

Proverbs 17:17 NIV
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

John 15:13-15 NIV – Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.

15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you

Jesus is my friend , your friend. Wow!
One of the hymns it brings to mind is this – What a Friend we have in Jesus.
If Jesus is our friend, we’re sure or we should be able to tell Him all that is happening in our lives: our struggles, our pains, our problems, our hopes, our desires, everything.

If there’s any friend, we can trust with our lives, it is Jesus.
He will not and cannot betray us. Never!

If we want to see friendship in play in the life of Jesus, let’s look at how He interacted with His disciples, with people like Lazarus, Mary and Martha, Mary Magdalene. Look at how freely they could interact with Him. 🤓
Oooh, I love that Man of Galilee! 😍😍😍

This is the nature of the Christian Faith; it’s a relationship.
Intentionality is key to maintain this relationship – reading our Bibles, praying, fellowship, fasting among others.
That’s how we maintain our friendships isn’t it? We keep in contact, we talk, we go out together, we break bread 😉.

God, Jesus, should be our first point of call in any situation we find ourselves. I know I falter sometimes and my counselor uno will remind me or ask – “Have you told God?”

I’ll end with these words:

Jesus, my Shepherd, Brother, Friend,
my Prophet, Priest and King;
my Lord, my life, my way, my end –
accept the praise I bring.

God bless you!
🤗
